The Maijishan Mountain Grottoes Cave 127 Northern Wei Dynasty(A.D.368-534)


The cave, 8.0 meters in width, 4.0 meters in depth and 4.0 meters in height, features a rectangular tent-shaped ceiling. It is one of three caves on western cliff (the other two being Cave 133 and Cave 135). There is door in front wall, and a niche each in other three walls, each containing three Buddhas. With the rest of walls covered in murals, the cave has the most murals in Maiji Mountain Grottoes. On walls and ceiling are Buddhist murals about, among others, Sukhavativyuha Sutra, Vimalakirti Sutra, Nirvana Sutra, hell, Sama Jataka, the ten good acts and ten evil acts, a traveling Śakro devānām indrah, and the Seven Buddhas of Antiquity.
